IGCI creating Digital Currency to fight crime

The newly created centre for Interpol research based in Singapore called the  Interpol Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) has already turned its attention to the blockchain.

At the end of March, it issued a press release that malware could be embedded in the blockchain and mentioned the risk of the blockchain being used to store child abuse images.

Since then, the IGCI director has announced the creation of a digital currency to be used internally at the Centre for research purposes. Part of the intention here is to better a understand how digital currencies work and how they can be misused. This is part of a wider research undertaken by the Centre into digital currency policy and law enforcement.
